Malthouse Upgrade to bring more outdoor events to Southbank

The Malthouse Theatre is having a $4.6 million upgrade to refresh the Southbank arts precinct and draw audiences to outdoor events in time for the Malthouse’s 2022/23 summer season.

The upgrade will secure the successful custom-built outdoor stage as an annual fixture on the Malthouse Theatre’s calendar, which debuted in 2021 as a part of the venue’s rollout of covid-safe measures in the wake of the pandemic.

New sculpture “with heart”

Sculpture artist Jenny Reddin has installed a sculpture on Little Collins St to inspire office workers returning to the city and spread joy to passers-by.

Ms Reddin said she was “inspired to create a work where the figure is as much described by the empty space as by the crisscross of metal bar.”
